While I have been collecting coins since 1975, my brother has only recently returned to collecting, as he did save coins in his childhood days as a newspaper boy back in the early 1960's on his bike route here in northern NY, we recently began to become more active in the numismatic field and have begun to buy coins for resale, as well as handle many coin collecting related supplies- books,albums, coin holders and other bits of the trade. We will also help novice collectors and others find out the value of their numismatic items in the real world markets. Being fair and honest is something as collectors ourselves we respected in coin dealers, and maintaining that type of relationship in our transactions and dealings is utmost in our list of business priorities.Knowledge is often lacking when one first gets into the coin collecting hobby and this often leads to bad experiences and causes many to leave the hobby early. It still amazes me myself how much out information is out there in regards to specific coins and series of coins- and this is only in dealing with mainly US coins! I strongly recommend to anyone entering the hobby that they first sit down and read a Redbook- A Guide to US coins by RS Yeoman, while the newer the issue is the better- as it will contain more up to date information, even an older issue will contain much the same information, and if your a beginner, don't concentrate on the prices! The Red Book is so called because of its outer cover and is an annual issue. Read the introduction pages! So many look only to the price sections of this book and to other periodicals, without first understanding the grading system, learning to properly grade a coin or currency issue is a must for anyone entering the hobby. Unfortunately most never take the time, which may be ok if one is purely interested in rare coins as an investment and will be buying mainly third party graded coins.
